Installing a Vehicle Turntable for a Garage
In San Francisco the street parking congestion has led to demand for the construction of garage spaces under many of the Victorian homes. As the footprint of the Victorians does not always allow adequate space for turn around under the building, often cars have to egress onto the traffic in reverse which could be an unsafe practice if the field of vision is restricted.
Over the years, clients have asked us to install automobile turntables to assist with orienting the cars so that exiting the garage can be accomplished by driving forward. The turntable is a rotating platform that can be operated manually or most commonly motorized electro-mechanically.
The turntable is constructed on a level concrete slab located below the level of the parking slab. A circular track is assembled on the concrete base with a motorized mechanism located at the center of the circular track. An upper steel circular platform fitted with wheels is then placed on the lower track, which is operated with the motorized mechanism. This entire assembly is contained with a circular steel ring that acts as a form holding back the concrete poured for the finished slab of the garage or driveway.
The system is controlled with a remote control. This mechanism has many benefits such as the management of the parking spaces in a garage, facilitating the maneuvers and parking, enhancing the safety of ingress and egress from the garage.
